Advancing Mangrove Conservation: BJP has entrusted the Program to the Village Government and the Local Community Through Partnership
Jepara, September 1st, 2025 – The mangrove conservation program initiated by PT Bhumi Jati Power (hereinafter “BJP”) continues to make significant progress. Started in early 2024, the program has successfully planted more than 55,000 mangrove seeds in Tanggultlare Village and Ujungwatu Village. To initiate the program and ensure the target of planting is achieved, the BJP engaged with PT Senyum Untuk Negeri (hereinafter “SUN”). By early August 2025, at the end of the collaboration with SUN, based on the final monitoring assessment, the mangrove survival rate was calculated to be 82.56%, which is beyond our target of 80%.
This monitoring assessment result marks a key milestone in the next phase of the program’s implementation, providing encouraging results that reflect the effective planning and planting. The survival rate indicates healthy seedling growth and favourable conditions to support the continued development of the mangrove ecosystems.
The Importance of Mangrove Ecosystems
Mangroves are critical coastal ecosystems that absorb and store CO2 in coastal sediments over a long period, and move organic carbon from the coast to the ocean. Mangroves also help prevent storms, hurricanes, coastal erosion, and tidal waves (Choudhary et al., 2024). In addition to their environmental role, collaborative efforts that bring together stakeholders from various sectors will be crucial in ensuring the conservation and sustainable utilization of these coastal treasures (Anu et al., 2024).
Commitment to Long-Term Sustainability
BJP intends to continue the commitment to the mangrove conservation program by directly engaging with the Village Government and the local community group in Tanggultlare Village. Through this partnership, the BJP expects the company to positively support mangrove preservation in Jepara Regency, as well as conduct the expansion of the mangrove conservation program to the existing mangrove area. This program will also support the BJP in initiating the carbon offset program as previously established by the Indonesian Government. Furthermore, the BJP is developing a long-term initiative by integrating mangrove rehabilitation with potential eco-tourism development to improve both environmental quality and local livelihoods.
BJP maintains its strong dedication to environmental preservation within the surrounding operational area. The company will continue to preserve, monitor, maintain, and develop the mangrove program in collaboration with the related partners and local stakeholders. Furthermore, these efforts provide a solid foundation for the further expansion of the program and become a model for sustainable and community-based environmental initiatives.
