Empowering Coastal Communities: BJP Leads Pokdakan and Poklahsar on a Benchmarking Visit to Pati Regency

Jepara, November 22, 2025 – PT Bhumi Jati Power (“BJP”) facilitated a benchmarking for the Fish Cultivator Group (Kelompok Budidaya Perikanan - Pokdakan) Cahaya Samudra and the Processing and Marketing Group (Kelompok Pengolah dan Pemasar - Poklahsar) Mina Sari to Pati Regency, Central Java. This activity is part of the BJP’s ongoing commitment to strengthening community capacity and enhancing knowledge in the aquaculture and fish processing sectors.

Pokdakan Cahaya Samudra is one of the BJP’s fostered groups that focuses on milkfish cultivation, while Poklahsar Mina Sari is engaged in developing processed milkfish products. Both groups are based in Bandungharjo Village, Donorojo Sub-District, Jepara Regency.

To support this benchmarking, BJP accompanied the groups to two locations: (i) the milkfish pond area owned by Sari Bumi Group in Kepoh Village, Wedarijaksa Sub-District, and (ii) the milkfish derivative production center owned by Mrs Darni in Dukutalit Village, Juwana Sub-District, Pati Regency. These locations were chosen because Pati Regency is well-known as an advanced milkfish cultivation area in Central Java Province.

The first visit took place at the milkfish pond area in Kepoh Village, owned and managed by Sari Bumi Group. This pond is uniquely operated based on seasonal and weather conditions: during the monsoon season, it is used for milkfish cultivation, while in the dry season, the area is optimized for salt production. The group explained that, to improve efficiency and optimize the growth cycle, they use a smaller pond as a nursery for milkfish seeds while preparing the main cultivation pond. Once the main pond is ready, the seed is transferred for further growth. This method shortens the cultivation period to about four months, increases survival rates, and makes feed management more efficient.

After visiting the milkfish pond, BJP and the fostered groups continued to the milkfish derivative production center owned by Mrs Darni, in Dukutalit Village. Her main product is boneless milkfish, and she has successfully met local market demand with a stable daily production of 150 kilograms. She explained how she manages the quality and quantity by ensuring proper processing techniques, using good packaging, and maintaining customer trust. She shared that it took her more than 22 years to establish this stable boneless milkfish production.

Finally, the BJP expressed appreciation for the active participation of the groups and hopes that this benchmarking activity will provide valuable insights for Pokdakan to improve cultivation management, while Poklahsar will gain a better understanding of milkfish derivative product processing. BJP remains committed to supporting sustainable programs that enhance local skills and promote economic empowerment within coastal communities.
