Sharing the Joy of Reading: BJP and BJS Employees Donate 148 Books for Literacy
Jepara, 8 September 2026 – In commemoration of International Literacy Day (ILD) on 8 September 2026, PT Bhumi Jati Power (“BJP”) and PT Bhumi Jepara Service (“BJS”) conducted a Book Donation Program. This year’s initiative aligned with the 2026 International Literacy Day theme, “Literacy for people, the planet, and prosperity”. This initiative is part of the companies’ commitment to support the Education and Training pillar of the CSR Program, while strengthening collaboration and a spirit of sharing among employees of BJP and BJS.
According to UNESCO, at least 739 million youth and adults worldwide still lack basic literacy skills, while 4 in 10 children do not achieve minimum proficiency in reading. In response to this challenge, BJP and BJS believe that meaningful change can begin with small and collective actions at the company level. Through the Book Donation Program, the companies encouraged all BJP and BJS employees, including vendors and contractors, to contribute books to share with children and communities in need of additional reading materials. The initiative also reflects the spirit of the ILD 2026 theme by expanding access to learning resources that can empower people, build awareness, and contribute to a more sustainable and prosperous future.
The donation was held from 26th August 2026 to 3rd September 2026 and successfully collected a total of 148 books. It covered various categories, including fiction, science, and children's books. Furthermore, the donated books were subsequently handed over to the Bondo Village Library and Yayasan Kartini Library.
The book donation program reminds us of a quote by Helen Keller (1880–1968), an American author, educator, and advocate for people with disabilities, who said, “A room without books is like a body without a soul.” Her words remind us of the meaningful role books and reading play in enriching our lives, expanding our knowledge, and opening our minds to new possibilities. Through this book donation, we hope to encourage a stronger reading culture and provide communities with greater access to books and learning resources.

By fostering collaboration among employees, contractors, and the surrounding communities, the companies will continue to support meaningful initiatives that promote education, strengthen literacy, and create a lasting positive impact.
