Strengthening Coastal Ecosystem Through BHUMI Installation

Jepara, 01st August 2025 – As part of the company’s commitment for environmental preservation and the preservation of marine and coastal ecosystems, PT Bhumi Jati Power (“BJP”), in collaboration with UNDIP Maju (a business unit under Diponegoro University), successfully installed 300 modules of Bangunan Hunian Buatan untuk Rumah Ikan or Artificial Fish Apartment (abbreviated to “BHUMI”) in Karang Bokor seawater area, Teluk Awur Village, Jepara Regency in July 2025.

The BHUMI installation program in Teluk Awur Village is a replication program from the previous installation in 2022, which was in Bondo and Karanggondang Village (with a total of 150 modules). The BHUMI modules have functions as natural habitats, providing shelter, spawning grounds, and feeding areas for various marine species. Creating a stable and supportive environment for fish and other aquatic organisms supports biodiversity and contributes to the improvement of marine ecosystems.

Before the installation of BHUMI modules in Karang Bokor, BJP, in collaboration with UNDIP MAJU, had conducted a comprehensive Feasibility Study (“FS”) to assess the project’s viability from technical, economic, environmental, and social perspectives. This FS was essential to ensure the effectiveness and long-term sustainability of the program, as well as to identify its potential impact on the surrounding marine ecosystem.

The success of the BHUMI installation program in Karanggondang and Bondo villages in 2022 has proven effective in increasing fish populations and maintaining coastal ecosystems. This consideration becomes a strong foundation for replicating similar programs in other areas. This expansion of the program aims to have a positive impact, particularly in improving the welfare of local fishermen and strengthening coastal environmental conservation efforts in both surrounding villages and the Jepara area.

The CSR Manager of PT Bhumi Jati Power, Mr. Ari Wibawa emphasized that company has strong commitment to preserve the marine ecosystem for the community welfare through strategic partnership “ The successful of AFA installation program in Bondo and Karanggondang Village has demonstrated the effectiveness and positive impact for the abundance and increment of marine species, Based on these encouraging results, we replicate the program in another location to give more benefits to the local community," he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of Teluk Awur Village, Mr. Rokhman, expressed his gratitude to the BJP for the BHUMI installation Program. “We hope that the BHUMI installation in Teluk Awur Village will increase the fish number, which means increasing the fishermen's income. We also hope that this is not the last but the pilot project for another program in Teluk Awur Village. We want to convey our big appreciation to the BJP, which commits to implementing a sustainable program not only in the surrounding area of PLTU but in other areas in Jepara,” he said.

In addition to the BHUMI installation, the BJP also organized SCUBA Diving training (Self-Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus) for four (4) local fishermen in Teluk Awur Village, conducted from 10th -13th June 2025. The training aims to enhance the participants’ diving skills and enable them to support the monitoring and maintenance activity of BHUMI modules.

The installation of these 300 BHUMI modules is expected to stimulate the growth of reef fish, maintain the balance of marine life, and generate long-term economic benefits for coastal communities, particularly for the fishermen around Teluk Awur Village.

Through strong synergy among the private sector, government, university, and the community, BJP continues to demonstrate its dedication to realizing sustainable development, which is not only oriented in energy, but also in environmental conservation and social empowerment.
